2| My Story. How I found the nervous system...a car hit my house!

Jen Deck

I talk about how I got here and why I'm SO passionate about the nervous system. The portal to my healing happened when a car hit my house literally 2 inches from Chloe's crib! Through healing my nervous system it touched so many other parts of my life without me specifically focusing on them. We don’t always know what we’re even looking for or where to look or what to do and we can easily get overwhelmed with all that’s out there. Somatic work that leads to your body and not your mind is the only work that will shift anything in a sustainable, lasting direction. The other reason I talk about is my 20 year health journey and being my own advocate when I trusted doctors to remove my thyroid at 19.

Episode number two. Welcome back. I am going to tell you about myself and how I think I got here, and why I am so passionate  about our nervous systems. So how I discovered the nervous system. Well, I get choked up every time.  a car hit my house literally two inches away from Chloe's crib, and she was perfectly fine.

So I truly believe that it was a portal into bringing me here. , I'm not sure that unless I was specifically looking for trauma healing, that I would've come across the nervous system. And so through that healing, I really came out the other side realizing how much I had changed and my life had changed, how it affected my parenting, my marriage, my relationships, how I was able to show up and feel good in my body, and how it had touched all.

Other places without me specifically trying to fix or heal any one of those things. So that's why I'm here because we're not told to heal our nervous system in general, but , as moms, I believe that the day they place our babies in our arms, if we have no connection to our bodies or how it functions or how to take care of ourselves in this way, then we're going to, on some level,  have a hard time and it's not going to be fun and it's not going to feel good.

And we are literally not functioning at our best. We are stuck in a state of stress, of protection, of survival, and if we don't know how to regulate that, then we don't live in connection and we can't show up for our kids like we want no matter how hard we try. And it's not our fault. Well, it is . But you just have to know your body to change it.

I think that there is a huge piece missing in how we talk about trauma or what we think trauma is like. I don't know if it's the word, um, but I was the same way. I thought it had to be something like a car accident or, you know, shock trauma or war or abuse. I didn't know before learning all of this that there was little T trauma or really just conditioning from our childhood. And so to me, trauma is stored emotion that couldn't be released at the time. And trauma is definitely stored in our bodies from forever. , uh, you know, this was the first indicator to me that I did need some help because it was at my body level. I do think I've always been attuned to my body, not connected, just attuned but I knew something was off, like on a deeper level. Uh, my body just, it just felt different and my sensitivity level was higher. I had more anxiety. So yeah, somehow I found an amazing program and then I just went deeper and deeper into learning all about the nervous system, really learning and understanding how my own body worked personally.

And then, you know, I think somatic tools that you don't hear about, We're told to breathe and calm down and all of this from our head space, and that's not going to work until you get into your body and you are connected to your body. We have so much power and we don't know it because we were never taught and we've actually been just totally conditioned away from it.

The other piece to why I think I'm here, , when I was 19, I had my thyroid removed. So I've had these huge health catalysts in my life. But being 19 and naive and trusting doctors and taking the most important organ out of my body, that regulates everything, I've been my own health advocate ever since. So when it does come to finding.

I don't, I guess, settle for a diagnosis or a label. I'm going to look for the root cause. That is the biggest thing I've learned. Get. To the root cause, not a band-Aid for a symptom. I do have to take a pill every day for the rest of my life. And for the first year, it was really hard when they're trying to regulate your dosage and I went into a deep depression.

I lost a lot of friends, and I just went into this obsessive space of trying to heal and feel better. So I guess my point, With that is that I do the research. I can even go so far down the rabbit hole. Need to know all of it, even if it's just all repetitive information. I have cliff notes for every, like self-help personal development, health and wellness diet, uh,  book out there if you want them.

I, you know, take the notes and then it's like I have to try it, obviously, but in the way that it works for my body and in the end, my nervous system and I implement them in my life and eventually, Or got to this embodiment piece. That's where I am and that's why I feel I can share. I mean, I've always wanted a purpose wanting to be of service to the world in my own way, and there was always something I was trying to build on the side, or I probably should say the inside.

And it's funny because that's what I did, and this is my purpose.  and I have to share because of the value in what I've experienced and know what it took to find this solution, because I pieced it together and it's not out there in this way. I don't think it's possible for a mom that's just hoping to not feel overwhelmed to find the answers to put together like this.

So unless a car hits your house and you're as devoted as I am, Defining relief, um, and through what, almost 20 years? The nervous system healing is the closest I've come to what I feel is living to my fullest and happy, balanced content, calm, you know, all the words that I never felt my whole life. This is with also being a mom,

Uh, and of course I think that's what we all want, but we don't always know what we're even looking for or where to look or what to do. And even more, we can get overwhelmed.  with all that's out there, and again, it's like you have to kind of go in different directions in the way that I pieced every part of what I knew helped me get here.

So one day I just looked at my pile of notes and binders and everything I had done and what I still do every day. And there was the mom spiral and here I am. So that's my story. All right. I really have to go research now how to end. A podcast cause I really wanna say that I'm gonna see you next week and maybe I'm just gonna do that, but I hope you guys have a great week and I will be back and there's too many times I'm saying week, so bye.
